What is the most recent advance in veterinary care that will increase your pet’s life span?
Dental care
Clean teeth and healthy gums are not just a cosmetic issue. Swollen gums, gingivitis and/or tooth or bone infection release massive amounts of bacteria into your pet’s blood every time they eat or even chew on a toy. These bacteria may not make them appear sick, but microscopic infection leads to scar tissue and damage to almost every organ in the body. Over time, this develops into kidney or liver disease, heart valve disease, urinary infections, and even strokes. Preventive care like routine teeth cleaning, treatment of infection and the removal of loose or damaged teeth will add years to your pet’s life span and avoid the pain and discomfort of having an infected tooth for months or sometimes years before “nature” causes it to fall out on its own.
Pets having dental work get the luxury of being able to sleep through their cleaning. We use only the safest anesthesia to allow us to clean your pet’s teeth quickly and without pain. Pets having their teeth cleaned get a double cleaning. First, an ultrasonic cleaning is performed to remove visible plaque and tartar, even the tartar packed tightly in the spaces between the teeth. Then a plaque-disclosing gel is applied to “colorize” any remaining plaque or tartar so it’s easier to see. A second clean assures your pet’s teeth are spotless when done. Once cleaned, we polish the teeth and apply a plaque prevention sealant to help keep them clean for as long as possible.
